A voice on the big issues

Rutland Politics - Independent Politics in Rutland

Welcome to My Website

PRESS RELEASE – 9th October 2009

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS WEBSITE ?

The basic principle which I am trying to explore with the people of Rutland and Melton, and the people of this Country, is “the need for change” in our political system, and within our public services.

I believe that there is an urgent “need for change” in the attitudes and minds of the leaders of our society, and most importantly, in the attitudes of many of our Politicians.

I am particularly concerned about our MPs attitudes to the basic principles of what is right and what is wrong, truth and half truth, and their moral and ethical responsibility to do the right thing, rather than looking towards their own financial benefit.

The current political and economic shambles in the management in our national politics, our economy, and the provision of our public services, is a testament to the problems that we all face, and a testament to “the need for change”.

I have no particular party political motivations in exploring these views and opinions, although I do believe that party politics itself is often the precise cause of the “see no evil, speak no evil” problem. Party politics is usually at the root of the MP’s need to try and hide the truth from the voter in an endeavour to remain “politically correct”, or to stay “on party line”.

Just one small example of this is the mistaken concept in our MPs minds that they are perfectly OK to exploit the system for their own personal gain, by inventing expenses that do not exist.

IT IS NOT OK.

There are a great many other similar examples of “bad practice” in all areas of our lives, and very expensive it is too. For instance, in the higher levels of our public services, there seems to be an accepted concept that if it is OK for the Politicians to work the system for their own benefit, then they will do so too.

IT IS NOT OK.

So, that is the task before us – getting the people who are in positions of responsibility, positions of authority and leadership, to realise that they can no longer expect to exploit the system for their own personal financial gain, and neither can they allow others in their charge to do so either.

We can only start on this task by looking at the honest truth, that which is fundamentally right and that which is fundamentally wrong, regardless of what is deemed to be “politically correct”, and regardless of the need to follow a “party political line”.

Closing all the loopholes and the opportunities to take unfair financial advantage, not only requires people who still value truth and honesty, people who are not personally on the fiddle themselves, but it also requires people who have seen and understand all the little routines and ruses of precisely how it is being done.

Then we must be prepared to talk about these problems openly.

Then we must seek the solutions without discrimination or favour.

Sadly, it would seem that there are precious few such people at the top already, but they are indeed there, all be it in far fewer numbers than would be ideal to forge an immediate acceptance of “the need for change”.

This doesn’t mean to say that I cannot try though, as indeed I believe that we all should!

I am a natural Conservative voter in the second largest economy in the world, but I find myself completly disillusioned with the political and regulatory leaders of our wonderful country. Perhaps you are of the same frame of mind too?
